Food Security/Agriculture

Thematic issue: Inadequate food security and poor agricultural practices

Strategic Objective:   The strategic objective is to facilitate community members to access appropriate resources to improve food security situation through adoption of modern agricultural practices that are sustainable.

Sub-objectives are
  • To enhance the adoption of appropriate sustainable farming technologies (including drought resistant crops)
  • To encourage the adoption of water harvesting technologies to supplement rainfall
  • To promote organized collective marketing systems (including value addition processes to minimize food waste)
  •
In arid and semi-arid lands, rainfall is inadequate to sustain a crop to the level of being harvested. However, establishment of water ponds can help farmers to harvest and store adequate water to supplement rainfall and therefore, food security is enhanced. In addition, adoption of appropriate technologies that mitigate against drought improve food security too
